Abstract
INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of combined exercise on HbA1c, cardiovascular disease risk factors, and physical fitness in elderly women with type 2 diabetes mellius.

METHOD: Participants were randomly assigned exercise group(n=8), and control exercise group(n=8). The exercise group performed for 60 min(consisting of aerobic exercise for 30 min and resistance exercise 30 min) per day, for 3 day per, 8 weeks. HbA1c, cardiovascular disease risk factors, and physical fitness were measured before and after 8 weeks from each groups.

RESULT: First, The weight, %fat, waist circumference, fasting blood glucose, and HbA1c were significantly decreased after exercise program. Second, The systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, total cholesterol, triglyceride, and LDL-cholesterol were significantly decreased after exercise program. HDL-cholesterol were significantly increased after exercise program. But C-reactive protein were no significant difference after exercise program. Third, The physical fitness(VO2max, muscle strength, and muscle endurance) were significantly increased after exercise program.
CONCLUSION: Combined exercise program has beneficial effects on HbA1c, cardiovascular disease risk factors, and physical fitness in elderly women with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
